Creative Work: Table Lamp Inspired by Federation Square
This is a creative work that was hand crafted for a design project in 2011. The design was inspired by the Federation Square in Melbourne. The lamp is composed of four geometric columns with irregular coloured shapes displayed on all sides. The lamp emits a spectrum of glowing colours that creates a soothing atmosphere. The overall design is a representation of multiculturalism and diversity.
Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, Frank Gehry
The Guggenheim is a museum completed since 1997 by Candian-American architect Frank Gehry and is situated in Bilbao, Spain. Storing countless of artworks, paintings and sculptures, the museum itself represents a modern and contemporary architecture. Interesting features of the Guggenheim museum include the use of reflective titanium panels which is both extremely flexible and strong, hence possible of creating interesting facades with curves and irregular shapes and yet capable of withstanding any extreme weather conditions that may occur. In addition, the irregularity itself provides structural reinforcement and self supporting features. The titanium panels resemble fish scales which echoes the organic life forms such as fish and prawns within the Nervion river alongside the museum. The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao is a masterpiece with critics, academics and the general public unanimously appreciating the architecture as a representation of the greatest building of our time.
Vivid Sydney
This photo was taken during my visit to the Vivid Sydney in 2011 which was a festival of light, music and ideas. The architecture is a historical building with detail finishing. However the most interesting feature was not the building itself but rather the animation and images that were displayed on it by a projector. The animation included short sequences ranging from splattering colourful paints to splashing water effects. The animation shown in front of the building was spectacular and impressive as such experiences are never to be seen in Hong Kong. The integration between technology and art and combining these elements into architecture is something new and will become increasingly popular around the world for its limitless, artistic and creative projections.
