Design Studio 4 - Concept Design
Site Analysis
Concept Design
My concept is to allow people experience the coal loader in a series of void and mass. Instead of having people travelling through the tunnel in a straight line, I want them to have freedom and move freely within the site. The limited vision inside the excavated space allow their curiosity to dictate their paths, which allow them to explore the site even further.
As you can see, the bottom level of the platform is quite ominous, foreboding and maze-like as I want people to be placed in a semi enclosed space so that they can feel the monolithic presence and in turn accentuate the imposing character of the coal loader. The shadows created at different times of the day also dramatizes the space. However, dark ambience at the bottom is contrasted with a more playful and green roof top gardens where people can look down into the space.
